Bernard Schober

Bernard SchoberThe Klute (known to the government as Bernard J. Schober) is a southern Arizona slam poet who combines pop-culture saturation with punk rock sensibility to try to make you laugh, get angry, and think (not necessarily in that order).

He's been a member of 4 National Poetry Slam teams from Mesa, AZ (2002-2003, 2005-2006) and traveled the United States and Canada for his "One Foot in the Grave" spoken word tour. Prior published works include 2002's "Escape Velocity" (mercifully out of print), and 2005's "Look at What America Has Done to Me" (on its 9th printing – it's just that good!).

He's performed for the president of the American Communist Party and has broken bread with Republican lawmakers. He believes in God, the 1st Amendment, and the Bermuda Triangle, and once performed a poem outside the White House gates under the watchful eyes of Secret Service snipers.

Slim Smith, former East Valley Tribune columnist: "[The Klute] showed a creativity that was hard to resist."

AZSlim, www.espressopundit.com: "Don't argue with The Klute. His hyperventilating and pure hypocrisy shown in these (and many other) posts makes reasoning with a two-year old who didn't get the popsicle he wanted seem tame by comparison."

Phoenix 944 Magazine says: "If anyone's seen 'The Klute' in action, they'd know it. If they haven't, they must."

Jerome duBois, The Tears of Things: "You have one of the blackest hearts I've ever had the misfortune to glimpse."

Brian comes to Slice of SciFi from Dragon Page: Cover to Cover where he started as a book reviewer. He was quickly brought on as one of the co-hosts. He is an avid reader, movie watcher and comic book collector in the sparse spare time he has. In those not so free moments he is also co-hosting on Kick-Ass Mystic Ninjas and Buffy Between The Lines. He is also working on other side voice projects and hopes someday to be as famous as Don LaFontaine.

Jonathan Frakes

Jonathan_FrakesBorn and raised in Pennsylvania, Jonathan was an undergraduate at Penn State and continued his education at Harvard, spending several seasons with the Loeb Drama Center. He then spent five years in New York, appearing on and off Broadway in several regional theater productions.

Prior to his role as Riker, Jonathan had recurring roles in such shows as Falcon Crest, Paper Dolls and Bare Essence, and for years was a contract player on the daytime drama The Doctors. His other television work includes the television movie "The Nutcracker" and the critically praised roles in the miniseries "Dream West" and "North & South" (Parts I and II).

In 1987, Jonathan appeared on Star Trek: The Next Generation as Commander William T. Riker. During the third season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Jonathan made his directorial debut with an episode of the series entitled "The Offspring." He so impressed the executive producers with his efforts that he directed a number of episodes in the remaining four seasons as well as episodes of Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Jonathan then had the double duty of acting and directing in his feature film directorial debut in Star Trek: First Contact. Jonathan repeated this effort to much success in Star Trek: Insurrection.

Frakes served as executive producer/director on the TV series Roswell. More recently Jonathan has directed episodes of the TV shows, Leverage, The Librarian and the new Sci Fi show Persons Unknown.

Jonathan is married to actress Genie Francis and resides in Los Angeles.

LeVar Burton

LeVar BurtonLeVar Burton transcends the typical generation gap when it comes to his fan base. His breakout role as Kunta Kinte in Roots in 1977 earned him an Emmy nomination as well as recognition from the diverse audience who had been captured by the epic cultural tale. Other roles in television and film after the success of Roots kept him busy until he began hosting the PBS classic Reading Rainbow, which sadly ended in 2009. Encouraging children to read and exercise their imaginations gathered a completely different group of fans, many of whom would later grow up and recognize him as Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation and the subsequent franchise movies involving that group of characters. Besides numerous other roles in television and film, he voiced the character of Kwame in the children’s cartoon Captain Planet and the Planeteers which was a forerunner of its time in encouraging children to be aware of the environment and showed its viewers small things they could do to reduce pollution and waste.

But Burton’s work extends far beyond acting in television and film. He has directed episodes for each of the Star Trek television series since (and including) The Next Generation as well as other television shows and films. Burton is also the host and executive producer of a documentary entitled The Science of Peace, that investigates the science and technology aimed at enabling world peace, sometimes called peace science.

Wil Wheaton

Wil WheatonWil Wheaton's successful acting career began in 1986 with acclaimed roles in Stand By Me and Toy Soldiers. He continued to build his resume through his teen years as series regular ‘Wesley Crusher’ on Star Trek: The Next Generation and opposite Robin Williams in Flubber. But Wil is much more than just an actor; he’s an author, blogger, voice actor, Columnist for the LA Weekly and Suicide Girls, widely-followed Twitter user, and a champion of geek culture.

Wil currently splits his time between acting and writing. He has recently appeared as serial killer Floyd Hansen on Criminal Minds, comic book publisher Miles Sklar on NUMB3RS, and as the voice of Ted Kord, the Silver Age Blue Beetle, on Batman: The Brave and the Bold. He's published three acclaimed books: Just A Geek, Dancing Barefoot, and The Happiest Days of Our Lives. His latest books are Sunken Treasure and Memories of the Future, Volume One. All of his books grew out of Wil’s immensely popular, award-winning weblog, which he created at WIL WHEATON dot NET and currently maintains at WIL WHEATON dot NET: in Exile. While most celebrities are happy to let publicists design and maintain their websites, Wil took a decidedly different turn when he started blogging in 2001. He designed, coded, and maintained WWdN entirely on his own, until he "blew up" his sites' database in 2005 and moved his blog to the TypePad service. In 2003, Forbes.com readers voted WWdN the “Best Celebrity Weblog.” Wil's blog was chosen by C|Net for inclusion in their 100 most influential blogs, and is an "A" lister, according to Blogebrity.com. In the 2002 weblog awards (the bloggies) Wil won every category in which he was nominated, including “Weblog of the year.” In 2007, Wil was nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Bloggie, alongside Internet powerhouses Slashdot and Fark. In the 2008 weblog awards, Wil was voted the "Best Celebrity Blogger," and in 2009 Forbes named him the 14th most influential web celebrity. This is all amusing to Wil, who doesn't think of himself as a celebrity, but is instead, "just this guy, you know?"
