You've heard of the Duck Tape prom dress competition- now there's a pop culture version! You've watched the Mythbusters make a boat with duck tape, armor should be cinch. Let your creative juices fly ... then cover them in tape! Hosted by none other than our Masquerade's own TD0013!

To give the judges time to deliberate, entertainment will be provided by Tom Tuerff. Later in the convention you'll see him MCing the "Talk Nerdy To Me: A Byte of Burlesque" shows on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. You may have already heard him at shows throughout the Valley; folk festivals, horror conventions, burlesque shows and a little radio show called Dr Demento

To get you started, here's some tutorials and inspiration (Note- your costume need not be 100% tape, you can cover fabric or cardboard with tape. Please make it MOSTLY duct tape, though!)

Imagine a world where few could read or write. How would you know if the armor-clad warrior approaching is friend or foe? In popular shows like Game of Thrones and The Tudors, plus games like Assassin's Creed and World of Warcraft, symbols are used to represent different factions. The use of symbols isn't limited to historical/fantasy, though. In comics such as Superman and Batman, symbols are used to represent the heroes, and sometimes the villians. In this panel we'll give a brief explanation of what heraldry is and how it's used in today's pop culture.

Come learn the basics of 3D modeling and printing along with some methods of prep, painting, and assembly of printed props.

Printing 3D props and prop components lets you skip the difficult and time-consuming steps involved in cutting and shaping pieces from hand. Not that 3D printing is always superior to the traditional methods, but 3D printing lets you transition quickly from an idea, to a digital 3D version of your desired object, to a plastic version you can hold in your hand.

While covering basic modeling and printing techniques, we will go over many of the basic tools and supplies you’ll need before, during, and after your 3D printing adventure. We will also cover some techniques for prepping, painting, and assembling your 3D printed objects into finished props
