Bartitsu is an eclectic martial art and self-defense method originally developed in England during the years 1898–1902. In 1903, it was immortalised (as "baritsu") by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the Sherlock Holmes mystery stories.[1] Although dormant throughout most of the 20th century, Bartitsu has been experiencing a revival since 2002. It has received a huge surge of interest from the Steampunk Community, as the only martial art created and practiced during what is considered our "canonical" period!

It's no secret the ladies get more attention in the cosplay setting. We've come to accept the fact that our milkshakes don't bring anybody to the yard, and that's ok. As a cosplay girl's boyfriend (well, 3 boyfriends and 2 husbands), we have an extremely extensive job description. We are a one man army of chauffeurs, hot glue gun operators, and wedgie-pickers. Our job behind the scenes has it's perks, but it can be dangerous at times. We are emerging from the shadows of our beautiful lady-friends and basking in the limelight for once! We will share our experiences and help shape the future one-man cosplay armies of the future!

When it comes to cosplay makeup there are plenty of do's and don'ts, but thanks to the popularity of internet tutorials sometimes people get misinformation. Some products can be unsafe and unwise to use. Whether it's bad for your skin, or just won't last you all day, it's always better to do your research before hand. Lucky for you, we've done that part for you, and can help you figure out what kind of makeup to use for specific occasions. Spend an hour with members of the Phoenix Society for Historical Swordsmanship as we review some of the best fight scenes in cinema. Whether it’s Jaime and Ned, Inego Montoya and DPR, or Jack Sparrow and Will Turner, movies are full of examples of swords used well and swords used poorly. Panelists will include award winning experts in swordsmanship providing demos about the dos and don’ts of sword fighting. While it’s no secret that the duels you see on the big screen are more akin to elaborate dances than actual fights, with a little bit of context you will find that the history behind these weapons is far more elegant and brutally entertaining than anything from a writer’s desk. We will across multiple fandoms to find the good examples of the epic duels between hero and villain as well as the silly or outright wrong. Does Thibault cancel out Capo Ferro like Inego said it would? Are light sabers more elegant weapons for a more civilized age or are they presented as just as bulky and random as blasters? We hope you will bring your open mind and humor to find out.
